Telco tower surveys: panoramic capture and line-of-sight checks

Aerial survey support for mobile network operators, tower companies and RF planners in Malaysia. Panoramas at the exact antenna heights you are planning, and line-of-sight verification between towers, including links where neither tower exists yet.

Panoramic capture at proposed antenna heights

Before a site is acquired or a tower is designed, planners need to see what the antennas will see. We capture full 360° panoramas at each height you specify, at the candidate coordinates, before anything is built. The panoramas show the true horizon, surrounding buildings, terrain, vegetation and neighbouring structures from the antenna's point of view.

  • Greenfield candidate sites with no tower or building to climb
  • Rooftop candidates where the proposed mast height is above the existing roof
  • Multiple heights in one visit, for example 30 m, 45 m and 60 m, so the planner can compare options
  • Existing towers where a climb is impractical, unsafe or too slow to schedule
  • Panoramas referenced to true north with azimuth markings for sector planning

Line-of-sight (LOS) checks

Microwave backhaul links need a clear path between the two antennas, with adequate clearance of the Fresnel zone. Desktop tools using terrain and clutter data give a prediction. Trees, new buildings and cranes do not appear in those datasets. We verify the path physically from the antenna positions at the planned heights.

ScenarioWhat we do
Existing tower to existing towerVerify the path from both ends at the mounted or proposed antenna heights and identify any obstructions.
Existing tower to proposed siteOccupy the proposed end at the design height and confirm the path to the existing tower.
Proposed site to proposed siteBoth ends occupied at their design heights, before either tower is built. The check that saves a redesign after steel is ordered.
Height sweepFind the minimum antenna height at which the path clears, so tower height and cost can be optimised.

What you receive

  • Panoramas for every height and location surveyed, referenced to true north
  • LOS report per link: clear or obstructed, with the obstruction identified and located
  • Directional photos toward each target azimuth from the antenna position
  • Coordinates and heights actually surveyed, for the site acquisition and design file
  • Fast turnaround, usually within days of the site visit

Who uses this

Mobile network operators

RF planning, coverage and capacity sites, backhaul design and site acceptance.

Tower companies

Candidate evaluation, build-to-suit design height decisions and colocation feasibility.

Site acquisition and TSS contractors

Technical site survey deliverables without climbing crews, cranes or scaffolding.

Microwave link designers

Field verification of predicted paths and Fresnel clearance before link commissioning.

Coverage and permissions

Nationwide across Malaysia, including Sabah and Sarawak. Operations follow Malaysian civil aviation requirements, and we coordinate with landowners and site access teams. Multiple candidate sites in the same region can be surveyed in one campaign.

As with our solar work, we keep the specifics of our field method for the project discussion. Tell us the sites, heights and links and we will propose a scope.

Send us your candidate sites

Share the coordinates or site IDs, the antenna heights to check and the links you need verified. We reply with a scope, timeline and quotation.
